A charming little chalet set in
a charming resort community by a charming harbor and public beach. That’s
Serra’s Chalet in a nutshell. The Chalet sits on property bordered by
trees in the back and homes to the side and front. It’s not a large home,
but very comfortable, well decorated and only a few years old.
Nancy Serra has styled the home
in a fun, contemporary American Indian motif complete with Indian paintings,
artifacts and desert animals accenting the walls and tables in just about every
room. Her choice of art let’s you know right up front that you are going
to have a good time.
A large, comfortable sofa wraps
around the carpeted living room complemented by two rockers. Behind the sofa is
a large picture window overlooking the grounds, homes and lake beyond . In
front of the sofa is the gas fireplace rimmed in gold. On the side, a large TV,
radio and VCR are ready for your enjoyment. The room invites conversation and
laughter after a long day of activity in the city or skiing at Boyne or one of
the other nearby ski resorts.
The kitchen is well stocked and
has just about everything you need including microwave and dishwasher. Its
clean, light linoleum floors and countertops is enhanced by bright light filtering
from the windows. Kitchen/dining area are separated from the living room by a
large doorwall taking you to the outside deck with view of the front yard and,
just beyond the homes, the sparkling lake waters. The immaculate, tiled
bathroom, between the kitchen and bedrooms, has a tub/shower with plenty of
room to move about.
There are three bedrooms in the
home. The two downstairs rooms, though not large, are a nice size with full
beds, dressers and photos of the Serra family enjoying the outdoors. The large
windows or doorwall make the rooms nice and airy. Up the winding staircase to
the second floor loft is our favorite bedroom. This one is particularly great
for kids. It has four twin beds, contemporary dresser, fan and a maid. She’s pretty quiet. In fact she doesn’t
move, and don’t expect her to make the beds, but she is a nice touch.
Once you leave the home, get
ready to explore the trendy nearby resort community of Charlevoix. There are
plenty of beaches and boating along its Lake Michigan shoreline. There’s
also great golfing, summer plays, concerts, casinos, fine dining, shopping and
shopping ... did we mention ... shopping. You’ll find traditional tourist
shops, antiques, art galleries and trendy apparel stores.
Staying closer to home, perhaps
you’d like to walk across the street to the small beach and harbor area
where the water is waiting. Should you decide to walk to the lake, however, we
recommend you use particular care with small children because the street is
pretty busy during tourist season.
Close to great golfing, beaches,
artisan galleries and restaurants, the very stylish Serra’s Chalet offers
a good location at a very reasonable price. Make your reservations early.
