Located in the laid-back community of Caseville in Michigan’s thumb, is the rustically elegant Lodge at Oak Pointe. You’ll enter The Lodge grounds through a quiet driveway just off M-25 (Port Austin Road). Like a secret soon to be revealed, the grounds open to a fantastic scene of lush lawns and sparkling pond waters reflecting the surrounding trees, sky and log inn. Keep your camera handy because we’re certain you’ll want to capture this picture for your memory book.

Robert and Becky Dorfman, amiable innkeepers, have created a wonderful retreat for travelers seeking a romantic getaway. Interior styling of The Lodge celebrates ‘The Hunt’, which begins in the spacious main gathering room. This impressive 30’x30’ room features a sweeping cathedral ceiling, warm and inviting wood-paneled walls. Comfortable burgundy and blue plaid chairs and sofas are offset by the fireplace and entertainment center, which is equipped with satellite TV and full surround-sound.

The library is an excellent place to curl up with a book or chat with friends by the fireplace. This two-story loft room offers a scattering of tables, sofa and chairs on the first level. The loft offers an assortment of books from which guests may select. If you start reading a book you simply can’t finish, you’re welcome to take it home. You can return it on your next visit.

Of course, our main attention was focused on the Lodge’s immensely comfortable and well-designed guest rooms. Each includes a romantic canopied queen bed and small sitting area with two glider-rocking chairs near the cozy gas-log fireplace. The private bath is comfortably sized and features a spacious, two-person whirlpool tub. Building on the romantic ambiance of each room is the absolutely lovely view. A doorwall leads to a private sun porch with direct view of the reflecting pond and grounds. A wonderful site where one could easily spend time just taking in the calm beauty of nature.

Speaking of nature, there are groomed walking trails on the 30-acres of surrounding woodland. Being a safe haven for wildlife, it’s not uncommon to find raccoon, deer, rabbits and a variety of birds as you stroll along the trails.

In the morning, you’ll awake to a tasty continental plus buffet setup in the small kitchen/serving area along the 100 ft. guest dining hall. Each morning’s buffet includes a choice of cereals, bagels, freshly baked pastries along with juices, milk, coffee and tea that you may take to your room or setup on the cozy, two-seat dining table just outside your room.

Their small cottage rental wasn’t available for us to see during our visit. It’s just steps from the Lodge and is nestled along the treed grounds. This little bungalow features private bath with oversized shower, queen bed, gas log fireplace, rocker recliners and large private deck overlooking the pond. It also includes coffeemaker, microwave and refrigerator. A spiral staircase takes you to the loft sitting room. A deluxe continental breakfast is also included for cottage guests.

After you’ve finished that last cup of coffee, it’s time to explore Huron County. If it’s beaches you crave, you’re in the right spot. Huron County is home to over 90 miles of Lake Huron shoreline. In fact, some of Michigan’s best swimming beaches can be found along Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay. One of the area’s noted public beaches is at Caseville’s Sleeper State Park. The Pinnebog River flows through Sleeper and attracts canoe, pontoon, power boaters and fishing enthusiasts. In the winter, head toward Sleeper or the Wagener County Parks to take advantage of their cross-country ski trails.

Enjoy the scenic shoreline drive along M-25, take advantage of the area’s excellent beaches, fishing and nature centers. And, at the end of a busy day, you’ll find the quiet, relaxing comforts at The Lodge at Oak Pointe a wonderful way to unwind and relax with the one you love.
